Dean School of Education
UST is seeking is seeking an outstanding leader for the School of Education. The Dean is the academic, administrative, and fiscal officer of the School and reports directly to the VPAA. The Dean is responsible for providing leadership in developing policy and curriculum in collaboration with faculty; overseeing fiscal operations; maintaining a collaborative and consultative relationship with the University’s other administrators; developing and maintaining partnerships and cooperative ventures with external agencies; ensuring high quality teaching and learning; maintaining appropriate state accreditation and licensure compliance; advocating for the profession of education; and increasing enrollment.
The University has over 3,000 students, the distribution being approximately 1800 undergraduate and 1200 graduate students. UST has been ranked in the top tier of the Western region by U.S News & World Report for the past thirteen years. The University’s mission derives from commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition and the dialogue between faith and reason, as articulated in Ex corde ecclesiae. By pursuing excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, UST embodies and instills in its students the core values of our founders, the Basilian Fathers: goodness, discipline, and knowledge. The School of Education offers programs on the undergraduate and graduate levels in the following areas: EC-grade 4, grades 4-8, grades 8-12, special education, and bilingual/dual language education. Graduate level professional certification programs include educational leadership, school counselor, and educational diagnostician. Currently, the School is proposing the addition of a doctoral program.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the University’s mission and its relationship to the School of Education programs;
- Demonstrated ability to lead through dynamic vision and collaborative and shared decision-making;
- Familiarity with both public and Catholic education;
- Demonstrated success in academic administration, especially with program development and enrollment growth, faculty development, assessment, and resource development through grants and donations;
- Commitment to diversity and multiculturalism;
- Experience with a variety of venues, such as off-campus professional development and degree programs, conferences, distance learning, and the use of technology in education;
- An appreciation of the role of the School of Education in service to the Catholic and the larger community.
Academic qualifications:
- An earned doctorate from an accredited university and a scholarly record enabling appointment to senior faculty rank in the School;
- Experience with early childhood-grade 12 teaching.
